The Mississippi State University Soaring Club (MSUSC) is a non-profit organization chartered in 1955 to introduce its members and the general public to the world of aeronautics and flight. Our activities include providing demonstration flights to the general public, instructing members on soaring flight, and providing a learning environment for MSU students interested in aeronautics. While primarily an MSU student organization, MSUSC also offers membership to the general public.

Demo Flights

If you would like to take a demonstration flight, please send an e-mail to Bob Otondo at He will let you know times and dates of upcoming soaring activities. Demonstration flights are $35 for MSU students and $40 for the general public. All demonstration flights will be flown with an FAA-certified glider instructor.

We typically meet on Sunday afternoons when the weather is favorable (e.g., no strong crosswinds, little chance of rain, and not too cold). We sometimes meet on Saturdays instead, depending on the weather and availability of our instructors and towpilot.

Our hangar is located next to the south ramp of the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory Annex at 114 Airport Road in Starkville, MS. Please enter through the gate on Airport Road, which is directly across from the Southwire flagpoles. The gate is usually left open for about 20 minutes after our meeting time. A map to our hangar can be downloaded by clicking here.

Joining the Club

A flyer about MSUSC can be downloaded by clicking here. It contains our current dues and fees, as well as information about the Soaring Society of America's FAST program (Fly A Sailplane Today). We recommend the FAST program because it offers a good deal for those who want to take a closer look at the sport of soaring.

If you want to be added to the club's e-mail list or have any other questions, please contact Bob Otondo at or call (662) 325-1961.
